Cow Escapes from Abattoir

It’s heard to believe but the following story was actually on the ITN News website on August 11th 2008. The link to the original story is below.

“A cow has escaped from an abattoir, leaping down a manhole and fleeing for a mile through a town's underground sewage system, before being captured in northern France.

The 90-stone animal was finally located beneath a church in Noeux-les-Mines, near Calais, after the vicar reported a muffled 'mooing sound' coming from beneath the building.

Council sewage workers found the cow wedged in a tight bend in the subterranean tunnel, and it was sedated before being dragged back to the surface using a winch and a crane.
But it was later put down due to injuries sustained in the rescue operation.”
